This week we were hit with some devastating news as SC committee member John Brooks sadly passed away. It came as a huge shock to all of us having seen John at last Monday’s game where he was his usual, cheerful self.
John was starting his 2nd year on the committee and he was a great person to have around at both matches and Thursday evenings at the club, not just for the work he did for the SC but he was just such a great man who always had a smile on his face and he would do anything for this football club. John would come to matches with his wife Mary, daughter Debbie and soon to be son in law Ian. When I heard the news I was absolutely gutted for all of them because they are some of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I hope to still see all of them regularly at games as I know how highly thought of they are by all of us.
There has been so many messages of support for the family, John was a very popular person. He’d supported the clarets for many years and the place isn’t going to be the same without him. Many including myself looked up to him, he was never seen without a smile on his face, he could chat about City for hours and he was a loving family man. John loved his holidays to Cornwall. There have been lots of messages of support from his friends down in Truro. He and Mary also owned a boat where they would take short breaks on the broads. It’s clear that John was very happy with his life and was very proud of his family. His relationship with his wife Mary after all those years is an inspiration and I pray I will have that with my wife in the future.
There has been so many in the claret family who have been taken from us too early. As well as John there’s Trevor Hales, Bill Evans, John Crumley, Brian Shipley and many more. All these people were great supporters of the club, standing on the terraces every week in all weathers hoping it would be our year. I pray that this will be our year and it will be dedicated to all of those loyal supporters who are no longer with us. I hope that they are up there looking down on the team and can witness the great things we are about to achieve.
Gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace my friends
