The Chelmsford City Supporters’ Club is delighted to announce a major two-season sponsorship deal for our Away Travel Club with businessman Gavin Smith, a locally-based tax consultant who has supported City for many years.
As a regular at both home and away games, Gavin understands the importance of having a strong contingent of the Claret Army at all away matches, and he is delighted to be able to contribute directly to this via his sponsorship.
“The Claret Army is a vital part of the club and their support drives the team on,” said Gavin. “By definition, the supporters that follow the team away are among the most fanatical fans we have, and I wanted to provide financial support to the Away Travel Club to enable them to provide attractive pricing to encourage as many fans as possible to use the coach, and to ensure that any potential hire losses of the coach are mitigated”.
Gavin’s background in income tax and tax credits – in a career with HMRC lasting over 25 years – enabled him to set up business on his own, and he deals mainly with sole traders, offering tax advice and completion of self-assessment tax returns. “I can visit your home or you can come to my place of business,” Gavin explained. “There are no hidden fees, just a fixed rate agreed after consultation.”

Gavin’s sponsorship money will be ring-fenced so that every penny goes towards the Away Travel Club and, in an innovative approach, as part of the sponsorship deal two lucky fans will win FREE travel for each match as every supporter on the coach will be included in a draw to determine the recipients for that game!
As part of a comprehensive deal, the sponsorship includes a full-page advert on the Supporters’ Club website, as well as Gavin’s logo and mentions on every social media post pertaining to the Away Travel Club. Also included is advertising at the Supporters’ Club hut on matchdays and on the Away Travel Club page in the matchday programme.
